Richard Williams visits Bluesky Studios

I know.. it’s been a long time since I updated the blog.. been really busy with Layla and her Blog ha ha!! Anyways alot has happened since the last time I wrote the last post…

First off…. Dave Torres one of our Lead Animator, has left for PDI in San Francisco. Another great loss for us here in Bluesky. Jason Martinsen and Antonin Plante have also left to take time to do some travelling. All the best to you guys!! You will be missed. (Antonin this lines for yah)!!

We have since hired about 4-6 new fulltime animators and about 13-20 temp animators to help out for Ice Age 3. Phew.. so many new faces!!

Also Bluesky has had some pretty cool guest speakers … namely Sergio Pablos (Awesome 2D Animator and Chracter Designer), Mike Kunkle ( another kickass animator) and finally Richard Williams ( need I say more.. a legend).

Here’s a photo of the current Animation team including our Technical Assistants and our Directors, Carlos and Mike with Richard Williams.(courtesy of Tom Saville)

4 Years to be exact

Today marks my 4th Year in Bluesky Studios!!! Who would have thought that 4 years would have passed so quickly. It was like yesterday when I first entered the main doors on the 17th Flr for my interview with our Supervisors Mike and Jim and also the Lead at that time Galen.

And now, Mike has moved on to be  a Co-Director for Ice Age 3(now i can’t go into his directory to check out his awesome animations..sigh), Jim is still a Supervisor here(at least theres still his stuff we can go check out) and Galen has become a Senior Supervisor for Ice Age 3(that means he won’t be animating at all anymore..which sucks for our team). I just want to Congratulate all of them on coming this far and wish them all the best in their new roles as this production moves on.

On another note, it saddens me to have to say goodbye to a couple others who have chosen to move on to other places. Here’s wishing you guys all the best in your next step in work Life!!! You will be dearly missed in Bluesky.

Cubicle Ideas for our move to Connecticut

So several of us in the Animation Dept were just chit chatting about our future space in the new location in Connecticut and thought it would be awesome if we could come up with themes for our spaces/cubicles instead of going with the “standard office cubicles” (which most of us thought wouldn’t fit the atmoshpere of a Design/creative environment). So it got me thinking about what I could do to personalize my space.

So here’s some ideas I sketched out. Bare in mind I am not a very Handy person.. so I am trying to keep this simple enough such that I can actually see this to the end.

Just Some Doodles…

Just some sketches I drew when surfing the web and was bored. The first 3 are some Indiana Jones inspired stuff.

These 2 are some attempts at caricaturing Aaron Hartline (one of our supervising animators) … who sadly will be leaving Bluesky. I always seem to draw him really “Evil” and “Gnarley” for some reason. Don’t be mistaken he’s actually quite the opposite .. being really nice and pleasant actually. Anywhos.. I hope he doesn’t take it to heart!! Heh heh! ALL the BEST to you Mr. Hartline.. you will be missed!!
